Imitate a small child having a tantrum; or, What I did over my summer vacation.

So, I'm working on a Super Special recap, and I'll probably post it this weekend. In the meantime, I'd like to share a little something I picked up at the thrift for a mere $2...

I was browsing at books, looking to feed my habit, when I saw the board games...Maybe they'll have the BSC game, I thought to myself...

Imagine my surprise when thrift karma swung my way...

And there it was, shining in all its copyright 1989 glory...

You know you craved this game...

You wanted to answer questions like "What do you do when you're baby-sitting and the kids start a food fight?"

Or, "How would you plan to meet a cute boy who is new at your school?"

You wanted to make your best friend "Describe the cutest boy in your school and have everyone guess who is!"

Hope this will hold you until I get the Super Special recap done...

Oh, yeah...if you're in the Dayton area, pick up the City Paper this week and turn to pg. 17!

I totally loved this game!! My favorite questions were the ones about what happened in the books.

I actually had this game, and I won every time! When ever I brought it out, my family would groan. I'm pretty sure I still have it around some where...

I had this game too!

Alas, I never did get to own the game -- interesting to see those scans! Looking forward to the SS recap.

The City Paper article is also online.

I wasn't fortunate enough to come across this miracle of boardgame-dom until living in a house with 5 other girls in University. At that point it became the focus of all "pre-bar" activity: can't remember the title of Dawn's favorite movie (for the record, it's The Parent Trap), drink up.

Library Lady, perhaps we need to work together on creating a drinkin' version of the BSC game.

Also, why am I so annoyed by Mallory's stupid kittyface under her signature? Who does she think she is, Calvin Johnson!?

Tiff said...

Um, it's a bunny...the double ls form the ears...

and it's nowhere near as cute as the k kitties...

and what remnant of our youth will we not drink through? (that was a really awkward sentence...)

Wow! Good for you; I had no idea that the blog was so popular. You rock :)

Absolut-o, Pobal. It's a good time.

As is using the Slumber Party game... You know the one... Where you put the fake zits on your face for wrong answers... oh the hilarity is non-stop. Sigh.

I still have this...but I never got the Babysitters Club Mystery Game (which I think was along the lines of Clue...)

Wow. I never even picked up on the bunny ears thing in Mal's signature. I thought it was a cat face, too.
Is it just me, or does Claudia look a little Cro-Magnon in that picture? Where's the glamorous Asian girl?
Congrats on the newspaper article!

And I had no idea Jessie was a dude.

Bwahahaha! Those pictures are so funny, obviously cropped from the fronts of books -- I recognized Jessi's mug from "Jessi and the Secret Language" cover.

And congrats on the DCP writeup - great article.

Looking forward to those Super Special recaps...especially the summer camp one, hoo boy!!

ahhh I loved that game!! It was a pined after birthday present that once received was hardly ever played due to my friends all being far more interested in listening to New kids on the Block tapes. Sigh.
*jumps on the phone home to see if mum can dig it up from the dusty wardrobes*

Let me tell you what the HIGHLIGHT of my YEAR has been - finding (and buying) 88 BSC books (AND Super specials) on ebay for $15 WITH SHIPPING. I shed a tear when they arrived.

Between your blog and my 88 books, I can die happy. Keep up the good work!!!

Someone I know had this game. I'm sure I've played.
I know for a FACT that I played the Sweet Valley High game. I made my sister play it all the time. What a franchise!

The Mystery Game was even better. You received cards that gave you a "who," "what," "when," and "where," and then you had to make up a story. The example that came with the game:

CLAUDIA and DAWN were at a CONCERT on SATURDAY AFTERNOON when CLAUDIA'S JEWELRY was stolen.

Or something to that effect. The funny thing was, Claudia taught the thief how to make her own jewelry.

I found your blog via PopSugar (one of my most favorite sites) and have been reading your site at work today. I had to comment on this blog about the BSC game--which I totally still have at my parents house. It's a good thing I'm going to visit this weekend, because I most definitely will be bringing it back with me.

This is the best idea for a blog EVER, by the way. Thank you so much!
~Sara, because I don't have a blog of my own.

I had this game - we used to only do the trivia questions, not the lame real babysitting ones.

Ahh, Morbidda Destiny. the best name ever.

I know this post is YEARS old at this point, but holy crap, I STILL HAVE THIS GAME. Okay, to be more specific, I tossed the totally wrecked game board and most of the cards, but I saved the trivia ones for shits and giggles. Sometimes when I get bored, I'll go back and read through them, and be ashamed that I still know all the answers. I'm 23, and I can still answer any BSC trivia you throw at me, but I can't pass calculus. LOOK WHAT YOU'VE DONE, ANM!

This post is over a year old, but I still wanted to say I loved this game! My little sister never read the BSC books, but I always made her play with me anyway. Whenever she'd get frustrated because I was kicking her butt so much, I'd have to start "helping" her out with the answers. She still remembers some trivia about the BSC, thanks to this game.

I recently purchased this game and the BSC mystery game at my local thrift shop.
I actauallly asked Santa for the mysery game when I was in 4th grade. I clipped out the add from the back of one of my BSC books... I taped it to the mantel of my fireplace and everything.
Yep- Santa brought it, but I never played it once.
I'm such a bitch.

All I remember looking at the pictures from that game was that the card that said Stacy...I swear that's a picture of Dawn and the Dawn card was Stacy.
